People Who Are Addicted To Music
Stars including Emeli Sandé, Labrinth and Ed Sheeran will perform at the London O2 arena later this year in memory of Stephen Lawrence.
Unity: A Concert For Stephen Lawrence, will take place on September 29, 20 years after the teenager was stabbed to death in a racist attack in Eltham, south east London. Profits from the show will go towards the Stephen Lawrence Trust, a charity which was set up to help young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Labrinth, the Hackney musician who achieved a number one with Emeli Sandé for duet Beneath Your Beautiful, and Tinie Tempah, the South East London rapper, are also on the bill. Ed Sheeran, Rizzle Kicks, Jessie J, Plan B, Soul II Soul, Rudimental and jazz musician Jamie Cullum complete the current line-up.
Stephen’s mother, Doreen Lawrence, who has tirelessly campaigned for justice and awareness of the problems facing young people following her son’s death, said: “We work every day to empower youth and we’re so proud that the music industry is joining us in reaching out to change the lives of young people.”
The concert is backed by London Mayor Boris Johnson. Tickets will go on sale on Friday.
