People Who Are Addicted To Music
The vivacious Samantha Jade would be so lucky should her new single Firestarter follow her stellar debut straight to the top of the charts.
And she may be even luckier with a new acting career as speculation swirls that the wildly popular X Factor winner has won the role of Kylie Minogue in the upcoming INXS miniseries Never Tear Us Apart.
Jade was coy about her rumoured move into acting but the pop artist who was often compared to Kylie during X Factor last year said she was a huge fan of the Minogue sisters.
“I am such a fan of Dannii, who I’ve met a couple of times, and Kylie and all they have done in fashion, acting and music,” she said.
“That is a career path I would love to even come a little close to achieving.”
The affable performer who stormed to No. 1 with her debut single What You’ve Done To Me – which went on to sell more than 300,000 copies – has teamed with local hitmakers DNA, who penned and produced that song, to write Firestarter.
Jade has come a long way from the frustrated fledgling pop star whose teen career in America was so dogged by disaster she sank into depression and couldn’t even listen to music.
The X Factor win and ongoing support of fans and friends has not only given her the career she craved but the confidence to match songwriting skills with the award-winning duo.
“I was determined we were going to write the single the day I went into the studio with them and we did, by having fun and not over-thinking it,” she said.
“I’m very lucky I get to work with such great people.”
Jade’s high fashion look also comes from her ongoing partnership with the Sebastians – her stylist Jules and ongoing mentor Guy.
Guy was one of the first people to hear Firestarter and she admits she held her breath waiting for his reaction.
“Guy is very honest and I was nervous when I sent him Firestarter,” she said.
“He sent me a capital letters email saying ‘I LOVE THIS’. He and Jules are such important people to have in my life.”
Firestarter is released today.
